Not really our studio. Our is much nicer. The Studio. It’s only looked like this twice.

Basically...

In order to acheive a great user experience, you need to begin with the context in which the user will interact with the design. By designing in-context, you can deliver the most effective solutions because you are factoring in the atmosphere and environment in which the user will work.

With the above in mind...

PixelPads was started in 2009 when I grew tired of repeatedly sketching contextual interfaces for each UX design project I undertook.

Whenever I began a web project, for example, I first sketched four or five little browsers complete with a Google search window on the right and 3 little buttons on the left. THEN, I would conceptualize various ideas within these browser windows.

Searching for a solution

I see a lot of notepad soultions for web designers. Funny thing is, they’re all based in inches and millimeters. Wouldn’t it make a lot more sense if they were pixel-based? Web standards were another big problem. What is the standard size?

Convergence

screens and pixels come in all sizes depending on the device. But designing for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch simplified the game. There was now one standard resolution and one screen size.

Those designing for Apple devices -like me- could now focus completely on the user experience because the context had been standardized.

PixelPads

With the iPhone and iPod Touch reaching mass popularity among users and developers, I created the ‘iPholio’, a pixel-based sketchpad the exact same size and ‘resolution’ as the iPhone and another for iPod Touch called ‘iPad Sketch’. iPholio and iPad were ready to go to press, but I decided to hold-off until I saw what new gizmo Steve had up his sleeve. In January 2010, Steve Jobs unveiled his own iPad. Drat.

Change of Plans

With that, iPholio and iPad Sketch were placed on hold and all my attention focused on creating a new pixel-based sketchpad based on  Apple’s iPad.

Since Steve swiped the iPad name,(hey, great minds think alike) I would have to invent a new name for my

pixel-based pads system. PixelPads has a nice ring to it, describes the product perfectly and most importantly, the URL was available.

In January 2010, PixelPads became official.

Looking for a great designer?

PixelPads knows a LOT about design and user experience. It’s what we dream about.

If you have a project that requires the best design and user experience has to offer I would love to tackle it.

I’m looking for a developer

If you’re a coder familiar with the iPhone and iPad SDK and passionate about effective design and UX, I’d like to work with you.

My goal is to do more than build cool apps. I want to enrich lives in meaningful ways while I enrich my own. I want my creations to be mind-expanding, not mind-numbing.

I’m interested in creating amazingly RICH, ORGANIC, INTUITIVE, HELPFUL, EDUCATIONAL and ESSENTIAL iPhone and iPad apps.

DO these words describe your apps? Let’s talk.
